Conservation
Incorporating policy implications into the field.
Our research teams work in many communities worldwide and this work crosses over the usual scientific boundaries. Through much of our work is health-based, our teams have to deal with broader issues that have both practical and policy implications in the field. We work closely with hunters of wild animals but we see conservation messages as an important part of our work. Some of our research results have practical conservation implications, eg endangered species such as chimpanzees and gorillas share high numbers of potential pathogens with humans and avoiding hunting or keeping these species is good for both human health and conservation.
