Mr. Tamoufe Ubald, a trained design biotechnology engineer is the central Africa Regional Director of the Global Viral Forecasting Initiative and has been working with Dr Nathan Wolfe’s research group since 2000. Prior to this position he had more than 10 years experience working with Family Health International and coordinating a range of studies investigating microbicide effectiveness (phase III) in high-risk women in Cameroon. He received his MPH degree in public health from Université Henri Poincaré, Nacy 1, France in 2005. Between 2003 and 2008, Mr Tamoufe has successively been nominated as Assistant Researcher at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and at the University of California at Los Angeles.
Mr Tamoufe is an HIV prevention specialist. Since 2002 he has been coordinating military HIV prevention projects in central Africa with funding from US DoD, and is widely recognized throughout central Africa for his innovative work with uniformed services.
Mr Tamoufe has published and is co-author for over 20 articles. This includes among others the article on the discovery of the first evidence of natural transmission of retroviruses from nonhuman primates to humans. These articles have been published in or covered by The LANCET, PNAS and JAMA. He has coordinates the implementation of research totaling over $10m in grants and contracts from various sponsors such as NIH, Merck Research Laboratories, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Family Health International and various branches of the US Department of Defense, including: the Global Emerging Infections Surveillance & Response System (GEIS), HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP), and the US Military HIV Research Program (USMHRP).
